Tutorial: b/w icons

So after a while, I decided to post this one. Is pretty easy I think and the results are really good. Hope you like it.

How to go from this Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting to this Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Using Photoshop CS2 (using selective colouring)

1.- First thing to do is crop and resize the image. You can also sharpen it once if you want at Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen.

2.-Image > Adjustments > Desaturate

3.-Go to New Adjustment Layer>Selective colouring
Red: +100, 0, 0, 0
Whites: -1, 0, 0, 0
Blacks: +100, +100, +100, +100

4.- Select the image and go to Edit > Copy Merged > Paste

5.-Duplicate the base and set it at Screen opacity 18%

6.- Duplicate the base again , set it on top at Overlay 50%

And that's it,add text, texture or brushes if you feel they are necessary. This is my first tutorial so if you have any questions feel free to ask =)

I don't use Photoshop CS2, but I think the icons you created using this tutorial look fantastic. I really like black and white with a splash of coloring added. ;)

I do too! I think it's the simplicity of the lines and colors.
Of course it might simply have to do with being a b&w movie gal. ;)
